In full disclosure: I am friends with the designer and I got this game for free from him. That being said, I won't treat his game with kid gloves.

Infinite City is a pretty simple tile laying game. The goal is to control regions of the city and score the most points. Some tiles have additional points on them and some have silver rings which if you have the most, you get a bonus. These tiles are big keys in wining the game, since they often make the difference.

You can pretty much teach the game from the rule book. Play is very simple: Play a tile from your hand onto the board next to another tile. Put your marker on the tile. Follow the instructions on the tile. Draw back up to 5 tiles. That's it.

It seems simple, but it is what is on the tiles which makes the game. The abilities range from mucking around with other people's tiles and markers to ways to increase your own region, as well as getting more tiles. It is very much a chaotic and 'take that' game. You could be in a good position at one moment, and then your next turn you could be left with nothing as everyone else has dismantled what you did. It requires you to be quick to react to changes that happen.

The art in the game is wonderful with a very art deco retro futuristic look. The game was designed with the artist in mind, so it fits very well. The only complaint that I have in this regard is that Power Plants, which are an ending condition and affects the tiles around it, don't stand out as well as they should.

How has the game gone over in my gaming group? Quite well, actually. It usually comes out in every game session that I attend, even when I'm not playing it. I'm guessing it is because it is so gosh darn easy to teach and it doesn't overstay its welcome.

For those who like a simple to learn game which involves a lot of chaos and player interaction, this is a pretty solid choice to go with. If you like games which have more meat and involve more long-term strategy, this is not the game for you.
